How Healthy Breakfast Smoothies Can Help You Lose More Weight Than You Could Ever Imagine
In this post I’d like to talk about how healthy breakfast smoothies became a regular part of my daily breakfast, and why you should try them too.
My Great Cancer Scare and How It Woke Me Up
In the summer of 2015 I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer (at least that’s what the doctors believed). For 4 months they called me in every week to look at it for any signs of growth.
During this time I did a lot of research on cancer and what feeds it. I learned the relationship between a high sugar, high carb diet and the spread of cancer. I love sweets — too much!
FEAR IS A GREAT MOTIVATOR! I immediately removed all processed, unnatural foods from my daily diet. I ate only wholesome, natural foods, mostly raw in the hope that it would allow my body to heal. Although I was overweight, losing weight was not my goal!
But I did lose weight. LOTS of weight! And this scared me to death! I know unintended and rapid weight loss is one of the warning signs of cancer. My significant weight loss only made me think the doctors were right. I lost 60 pounds in just 60 days, and it was actually frightening.
But after 4 months of watching the mass on my pancreas for signs of growth, they said it wasn’t growing, so they decided to go in and take a sample.
The mass was benign! I had a mass, but it wasn’t cancer!
So how did I manage to lose so much weight so quickly?
DIET! Just a clean and natural DIET! No exercise other than the 20k steps I take everyday. Like I said, weight loss wasn’t my intention. It was simply a byproduct of my dietary changes, and my breakfast smoothie was a large part of that.
In this post I want to focus specifically on my daily breakfast. A healthy breakfast is, after all, the best way to start the day!
Why Healthy Breakfast Smoothies Should be a Part of Your Day
I’ve become addicted to healthy breakfast smoothies. I drink them DAILY and look forward to them. I never craved anything else.
Breakfast literally means “break fast” because you are ending a fast of anywhere from 8 to 12 hours or more. When ending a fast, your stomach needs food that is gentle, easy to digest, and nutritious. Breakfast smoothies fulfill all of these requirements of a quality breakfast.
They are easily digested, nutritious, easy on the stomach, and take minutes to prepare. They are the best breakfast, especially with today’s busy lifestyle.

Variations of the Healthy Breakfast Smoothie
Add 1/2 cup dry oatmeal. Oats are an incredibly healthy addition to any breakfast smoothie. The added fiber will keep you feeling satisfied until lunch. Read here about the amazing health benefits of a single serving of oatmeal.
Health Benefits of Oatmeal
Oatmeal is a staple of healthy diets around the world. Perhaps best known as an excellent fiber source, the truth is that oats are dense with nutrients to a degree that outshines many grains. Moreover, they provide distinct and proven overall health benefits. It’s true no matter which variety you choose — whether steel-cut, rolled, or instant, the following benefits apply with only mild variations.
One serving of oats is just half a cup (40g), and provides 51g of carbs, 13g of protein, 8g of fiber, and 5g of fat for a grand total of only 303 calories. In that same serving, all the following vitamins and minerals are present:
* MANGANESE: 191% of the recommended Daily Value (DV)
* PHOSPHORUS: 41% DV
* VITAMIN B1: 39% DV
* MAGNESIUM: 34% DV
* COPPER: 24% DV
* IRON: 20% DV
* ZINC: 20% DV
* FOLATE: 11% DV
* VITAMIN B5: 10% DV
* Trace amounts of calcium, potassium, vitamin B3 and B6
As for the demonstrated health benefits of oatmeal, they are myriad.
LOWER CHOLESTEROL. Research has shown that oats lower cholesterol levels, and can even prevent oxidation of LDL cholesterol (also known as “bad” cholesterol) by way of beta-glucan, a type of soluble fiber.
LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE. Oats contain unique antioxidants known as avenanthramides that can increase the dilation of blood vessels for better blood flow. As a bonus, they also have anti-itching and anti-inflammatory properties.
IMPROVE BLOOD SUGAR CONTROL. Once again we turn to the fiber beta-glucan, which slows the passage of nutrients from the stomach. This regulates the flow of glucose into the bloodstream, which helps prevent insulin spikes.
WEIGHT LOSS. Fiber is what makes food filling, and oatmeal is packed with it. When you eat oats, you feel full longer, which will lead to eating less.
Add Spinach or Kale to Your Breakfast Smoothie
Adding either, or both of these to your breakfast smoothie to SUPERCHARGE your breakfast. Both are powerful additions that will take your smoothie to the next level. You can add spinach without changing the flavor of your smoothie too much, but kale might take a little getting used to, but it is well worth it.
Experiment with the breakfast smoothie until you find your favorite, then make it a daily habit. The results will amaze you!
